An Alertacall service
Founded in 2004, Alertacall is the first organisation in the world to specialise in the development of technology to improve daily contact, designed to keep people independent and drive meaningful outcomes.
Alertacall was founded by the CEO James Batchelor, the original inventor of the “I am okay” button. He was inspired by the changing needs of Eveline, his own staunchly independent grandmother and her desire to remain in her own home for as long as possible.
The company now improves the lives of tens of thousands of people. It works in partnership with dozens of organisations in housing, health and social care and has many private customers.

An experienced team
Alertacall employs team members from all across the UK, with offices located in Windermere (Cumbria) and Warrington (Cheshire). The company has a strong and experienced leadership team and comprises passionate experts in customer services, technology, operations and product development.
Alertacall was Highly Commended at the National Business Awards for Innovation. Its shareholders are all Board Members and driven by a desire for the company to improve contact and wellbeing for as many people as possible and to improve the lives of everyone the company comes in to contact with.
The story behind the service – James Batchelor
‘My grandmother Eveline was a very independent woman. After breaking her arm and going into hospital, we looked at a number of home support solutions, including pendant alarms, but Eveline wasn’t keen on having to wear a device.
We started phoning her every morning to check that she was OK. However, she began to feel that the calls were at times invasive. The solution was obvious: we needed to give my grandmother control over the process of keeping in contact.
By asking Eveline to press a button any time she wanted, before a predetermined time each day to signify she was OK, it would give her more freedom. We could then call her at that time if she didn’t get in touch. My grandmother loved the idea and so the OKEachDay button was born!’

"It’s non-intrusive, convenient and so reassuring if you live alone"

"The reminder service is great. If I need to set a reminder for a doctors appointment or an early morning wake up call when I’m going on holiday, I just let the team there know and I get a call on the day. More importantly, I’ve set it to remind myself of my grandson’s birthday so I always remember to send a card"
C. Wright
